Wine Tasting with Winemaker John Belsham

As we have all made adjustments to our lives, it's more important than ever to stay connected, energised and laugh.

So get your colleagues, clients or friends together for a virtual wine tasting and conversation with international winemaker and consultant John Belsham.

One of New Zealand's most highly-regarded winemakers and wine critics, John has reviewed over 100,000 wines in his career to date. He was the wine consultant to Air New Zealand for 20 years, curating all the wine selections served on-board.

He was also the wine critic for Cuisine Magazine for 16 years, so if you have never had a Foxes Island wine, it is likely you have tried one of his recommendations.  

In 2000 and 2001, John led the screw cap initiative; an initiative that changed 95% of the New Zealand wine industry from corks to screw caps. An industry disrupter that is still a relevant case study in university work today.  And that, is only the beginning of the stories to tell...

How It Works

We will host a one hour virtual tasting on the preferred platform (Zoom, Teams or Skype) at an agreed time.

A few days in advance, each person will receive one bottle each of the selected wines for the tasting.

This is your tasting, so we encourage conversation and questions as John talks about the wines and shares his stories and philosophies.

Tastings can be conducted in English or French. 

The Details 

Wine tastings start from $60 per person with a minimum of 10 people or $600 spend. 

You select the wines you want to taste and fits your budget (we suggest 2-3 wines for a one hour tasting).

We are happy to help curate or tailor a selection of wines, both current release or verticals and cellar selections from the library.

Wines will be sent to each individual a few days in advance of the tasting by courier.

Please note final price per person is based on the wines selected. 

What You Need to Do

Book your tasting with Helen at Cellar@Foxes-Island.co.nz 

Chill the wines to the appropriate temperatures.

Provide an individual glass for each wine, if possible.  

Turn on your computer and connect.

Open and pour your first wine and get ready for some fun.
