Old Ford Road, Awatere Valley:

In 2000, a magnificent property was purchased on Old Ford Rd in the more southern Awatere Valley, Marlborough. Specifically selected for Pinot Noir production, ten hectares of this spectacular river terrace site have been developed using the new 'Dijon' clones in a close planting regime. The first fruit from this new vineyard was incorporated in the 2003 vintage releases.

The soils on this site are 20,000 years old originating from an alluvial terrace formed during the last glacial period. The silty loams sitting over river-run and volcanic gravels are an ideal soil profile for Pinot Noir and other premium cool-climate varieties. This is a very dry site with 15% less rainfall than the Wairua Valley sites.
